The Admissions Specialist is responsible for recruiting new students to the University of West Florida, actively engaging in outreach efforts such as attending college fairs, visiting high schools, and building relationships with school counselors. This role includes managing an assigned recruitment territory, developing and executing an action plan to meet enrollment goals, and effectively communicating with prospective students and their families through various mediums. The specialist will provide information about UWF, the admissions process, admission requirements, scholarships, and financial aid. This position requires extensive travel, often including evenings, weekends, and overnight stays, to effectively engage with prospective students and stakeholders. Additionally, this position collaborates with the undergraduate admissions team to facilitate events, assist with campus tours, and serve as a primary representative of the institution, supporting UWF’s overall mission. The Admissions Specialist will also develop knowledge of application review processes and assist with application review and processing tasks as needed.
A bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma and seven years of appropriate experience.
The Admissions Specialist must possess strong communication and customer service skills to effectively engage with prospective students, families, and other stakeholders. This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment. Candidates should be comfortable working with technology, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and have the ability to learn and navigate various systems and platforms. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret and apply institutional policies, guidelines, and admission requirements. Flexibility and a willingness to adapt to evolving priorities are key to success in this position.
Ideal candidates will have prior experience in college or university admissions, student ambassador or tour guide roles, or as a resident assistant in a university setting. The ability to effectively communicate with both small and large groups, including individuals from all backgrounds, is highly valued. Strong public speaking skills and a demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service are essential. Additionally, experience working with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, such as Slate, is preferred.
