POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Coordinator (Foreign National Liaison) manages the foreign national employment program at the University of West Florida. This position coordinates with the external immigration attorney to ensure a smooth hire, transition happens for the foreign national as it relates to employment.

This position works on special projects as assigned by the AVP.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization with one year of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization with three years of relevant experience.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

This position must have the following skills:
- Extensive knowledge of Federal and State laws regulating employment, compensation, and immigration such as DOL, FLSA, IRS, FERPA, and USCIS employment eligibility.
- Obtain and retain current knowledge of Florida Statutes; Board of Governors Regulations; and university regulations, policies, and procedures. Interpret these laws and regulations impartially.
- Highly refined organizational skills. The ability to perform multiple functions at one time and the ability to respond positively to University faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong technical and mathematical skills.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive/confidential issues.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Think strategically and approach challenges with creativity. This position must have strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to deliver presentations to individuals and groups.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare high-level analysis of data and communicate complicated matters in a meaningful and structured way to a variety of audiences, including senior leadership.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience managing immigration related to employment and VISA status. Certification as PHR, SPHR, or SHRM U.S. Employment Immigration Specialty Credential or be able to obtain within one year of employment. Knowledge of higher education processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
  • 75% - Oversees the University's immigration programs. Manages and ensures compliance in the processing of multiple complex and varied immigration cases for University faculty personnel. Collaborates and manages processes with the foreign national, external immigration attorney, administrative and academic departments, state and federal agencies, to mange the University's sponsorship of foreign nationals to ensure a successful outcome. Advises faculty, staff, and administrators regarding federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to immigration matters. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Ensures immigration and related records are accurate, coded and maintained in an organized manner, meeting accreditation compliance standards. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Maintains current knowledge of Federal and State laws regulating immigration employment. Updates and proposes process improvements to immigration policies and procedures. Attends webinars, meetings, and conferences at the local, state, and national level to maintain current knowledge of human resources issues and employment legislation. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assists hiring departments with the immigration procedures. Reviews job descriptions, recruitment advertisements, short-lists, and offer letters to ensure compliance as it relates to immigration requirements. Responds to travel tickets for travel outside the United States. - (Essential)
