POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

Processes and delivers university mail. Responsible for performing the specialized functions within UWF Postal Services involving mail pickup, mail delivery, mail processing, and preparations, mail sorting, computing postage charges for outgoing mail and preparations for all mail being dispatched to the US Postal Service. Must possess a good working knowledge of all US Postal Service Rules and Regulations and be able to interpret postal rules, university rules and regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid drivers license, high school diploma and possess good customer service skills. Basic math skills, communication skills, US Postal Service Domestic and International Mail Manuals is needed. Knowledge of all university departments, staff, and locations is required in order to sort and deliver mail.

High school diploma plus 4 years experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
  • 20% - Anticipates heavy mail pick-ups and deliveries on Campus Mail routes and plans route to best accommodate the department without compromising timely delivery. Picks up outgoing domestic, international, metered, bulk, and campus mail for breakdown and processing into proper category for sorting and delivery to university offices and departments. Sorts campus mail to proper breaks for each daily delivery. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Receives and sorts all incoming US Mail from the US Postal Service by correct department, break, or mailroom breaks. Must be knowledgeable of all faculty, staff, and resident students on campus, and their mailing location. Separates and bundles mail into routes for distribution and delivers in a timely manner. Delivers mail in varying conditions and weather as determined by the supervisor. Delivers to three on-campus routes, which consist of 47 buildings and over 120 different stops. Also delivers to 11 off-campus locations. Assists with writing up packages, scanning mail, shelving and boxing student mail. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Serves as UWF Courier and delivers off-campus UWF locations three times per week on route rotation for every third week. Delivers to locations in downtown Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, Eglin AFB, and the US Postal Service Bulk Mail Entry Unit at the Jordan Street Post Office if bulk mail or checks need to be deposited. Maintains a safe and accident free driving record while dealing with heavy beach traffic each day. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Processes and prepares all domestic and international meter mail for dispatch to the US Postal Service using a high speed mail processing machine and postage meter. Must have good working knowledge of all US Postal Service rates and regulations in order to process the mail correctly. Must follow all US Postal Service guidelines for proper sacking, traying and labeling of all mail by rates, categories, and destinations. Able to prioritize work in order to meet daily deadlines. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Communicates daily with departments, faculty and staff to help determine their mailing needs and communicates with the Assistant Manager to find a working solution for this need. Stays current with all departmental and personnel changes that might affect the routes and delivery of mail. Assists the Assistant Manager with the layout of sorting bins to best serve these needs. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Maintains the basic upkeep of the mail delivery vehicles. Cleans, gasses up, checks oil and tire pressure to maintain safety on the routes. Does basic and preventive maintenance on all vehicles and other postal equipment. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Assists the Assistant Manager with the processing of Bulk Mail for distribution to the US Postal Service Bulk Mail Entry Unit. Assists with address printing and addressing software operations as needed for Standard Bulk Mail and Pre-sorted First-Class Mail. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Rotates with other driver on three special runs each day including the 3:00 run to Building 10, Crosby Hall, for any last minute meter mail to be processed and to all of the blue UWF Postal Services mail collection boxes on campus to pull the outgoing meter mail and tray it for dispatch. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Prepares the office for the next day. Sets out the mail tubs and puts the proper label in each for dispatch. Prints the Daily Report for the mail processor and postage meter, and fills in the log sheet for permanent office records. - (Essential)
