The IT Manager is responsible for operating, securing, and improving the University of West Florida's Cybersecurity and AI Center infrastructure, including the Florida Cyber Range, data center, AI servers, and supporting networks. The role supports cybersecurity education, research, and outreach activities by ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing technology.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Systems Management
Maintain and support the Florida Cyber Range, data center, virtualization platforms,
storage systems, and AI servers.
Design and manage virtualized network environments for teaching and research.
Administer, monitor, troubleshoot, and upgrade LAN, WAN, and Internet connectivity.
Ensure high system availability through proactive maintenance and performance
monitoring.
Deploy and manage network hardware, software, and communication systems.
Security, Compliance & Documentation
Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls and network security measures.
Manage patching, change management, and vulnerability remediation processes.
Ensure compliance with university policies and cybersecurity frameworks.
Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
Support & Coordination
Coordinate operational activities with technical staff and student assistants.
Serve as the Center's primary liaison to University Information Technology Services.
Manage IT purchasing, inventory, and asset tracking.
Support faculty by assisting with technology-related instructional materials and learning
environments.
Recent related credential or certification and practical knowledge of the job area, advanced education or 2 years work experience in a systems support role.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a
related field. Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Security+. Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills. Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with:
Virtualization platforms (Proxmox, VMware, KVM, Citrix)
Windows, Linux, and macOS systems
Network devices, firewalls, routers, and switches
Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SQL Server, and web services
Cybersecurity standards and compliance (STIG, CIS, NIST SP 800-53)
VPNs, PKI, SSL/TLS, and digital certificates
Storage technologies (NAS, SAN, NFS)
Data center hardware, cabling, and server installation
Cloud identity and device management tools such as Microsoft Entra and JumpCloud.
