POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

The Desktop Support Engineer I serves as a key contact for technology support for faculty and staff within the Lewis Bear Jr. College of Business (LBJCOB) and Usha Kundu, MD College of Health (UKCOH). This role delivers first-level technical support to LBJCOB/UKCOH and offers guidance on technology projects, including their procurement and lifecycle management. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware and software, setting up computers, and maintaining and supporting LBJCOB and UKCOH computer labs and classrooms. Must adhere to standards and best practices set by ITS, educating LBJCOB and UKCOH staff, using device management, configuration, and deployment tools, preparing tech purchase quotes, ensuring endpoint compliance with university standards, and supporting LBJCOB and UKCOH special events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Broad job knowledge typically obtained through professional entry-level certifications/credentials, advanced education or 1 year of work experience in a technical support role.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong knowledge of Windows and MacOS. Familiarity with common software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite and web browsers. Experience with hardware troubleshooting and repair, including desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals. Understanding of network protocols, wireless networks, and network troubleshooting. Knowledge of mobile devices, tablets, and related technologies. Must demonstrate ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively within a team-oriented environment. Must demonstrate ability to offer guidance on technology projects, including their procurement and lifecycle management. Must adhere to standards and best practices set by ITS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Exhibits strong customer service skills and a collaborative team player mindset, with at least 1 year of hands-on experience in a technical support role involving troubleshooting, analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of technical issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
  • 50% - Serve as the primary point of contact for LBJCOB/UKCOH faculty and staff seeking technical assistance with desktop-related issues. Set up computers, install software, diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues, including various operating systems, such as Windows, Mac, and Linux and across a range of software applications, ensuring timely resolution of issues and providing clear guidance and support. Log issues and track them until resolved. Use device management, configuration, and deployment tools. Ensure supported computers adhere to Endpoint Computing Workstations Policy and Endpoint Workstation minimum standards. Prioritize and manage multiple open cases at one time, escalating more complex issues to the appropriate specialized team when necessary. Maintain a high degree of customer service for all support queries, ensuring that all faculty and staff have a positive and seamless support experience. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Maintain LBJCOB/UKCOH classrooms and computer labs, ensuring they are properly equipped and operational. Provide technical support for LBJCOB/UKCOH virtual classes and meetings as needed Support LBJCOB/UKCOH special events, both weekday and weekend. Ensure timely repair and installation of classroom and lab equipment, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues as needed. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Provide the Dean with information and reports on technical assets and activities as required for planning, directing, and reporting to the college. - (Essential)
