POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

Manage and coordinate daily operations of the UWF Aquatic Center. This role coordinates the pool schedule, manages lifeguard staffing, oversees safety systems, develops aquatic programming, and ensures facility readiness. Reporting to the Associate Director of Recreation, the Aquatic Manager is crucial in maintaining safe, efficient aquatic facilities and programs that comply with University policies and regulatory standards. Coordinates that event set-up/tear down is executed as stated in customer contracts. Assists in generating all deposits and daily reconciliation of all cash, credit, and check transactions for the Aquatic Center and HLS Facility, as needed. Manages the special events in the Aquatic Center. Assists, as needed, in managing events in the HLS Facility. Coordinates facility reservations, identifies risk management issues and ensures conflicts between users are solved in a professional manner. Develop and maintain effective relationships with facility users. Administer contracts that includes reviewing, planning, and executing events within the Aquatic Center. Coordinate and communicate facility set up diagrams to staff and patrons. Responsible for ensuring ADA, state fire codes, and building emergency action plans are followed. Manage patron complaints and solve customer service issues. A vital component of this position supports a wide range of activities, including recreational use, academic classes, external contracts and rentals, and varsity aquatic events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of lifeguard or lifeguard instructor certification by a nationally recognized organization, such as the American Red Cross or equivalent. Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Incumbent will be required to have Lifeguard or Lifeguard Instructor certification; good interpersonal communication skills and customer service skills; conflict resolution and time management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience supervising student staff; experience with assessment of participation satisfaction; excellent written skills; experience in event scheduling and recreation management software.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
  • 35%% - Coordinate daily pool schedules for community swim, USA swim team, collegiate swim & dive team, university organizations and academics, rentals, lessons, and aquatic programming; Work with professional staff, lifeguards, Facilities, and Custodial Services to support facility readiness; Coordinate scheduling and logistics for aquatic programs, lessons, rentals, and special events; Track daily open-swim participation and utilization; Support outreach and engagement for aquatic programs.; Assist with game-day aquatic operations for varsity Swimming & Diving; Coordinate operational setups, equipment checks, and facility readiness tasks; Submit and track work orders and service requests; Maintain pool equipment and rescue gear; Support facility improvement and renovation projects. - (Essential)
  • 25%% - Coordinate hiring logistics, onboarding, scheduling, and coverage for approximately 40 student and part-time lifeguards; Maintain records for certifications, training, schedules, and employment status; Submit personnel and payroll documentation in accordance with university processes; Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and feedback; Support ongoing staff training and emergency preparedness. - (Essential)
  • 20%% - Implement aquatic safety plans, emergency action plans, and compliance protocols; Track and verify lifeguard certifications and renewals; Perform and document monthly AED tests; Support inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews led by state & university departments; Maintain safety logs and incident documentation; Stay current on aquatics best practices through professional development. - (Essential)
  • 10%% - Monitor lifeguard staffing levels and aquatic center operating expenses; Support accurate payroll, purchasing, and inventory tracking; Assist with revenue-generating aquatic programs and rentals; Stewardship of equipment and supplies to promote safe and efficient operations. - (Essential)
  • 10%% - Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned. - (Essential)
