POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

Art Lab Technicians in the Department of Art & Design support the operation and maintenance of various specialized lab spaces including the wood shop, metal shop, spray booth, ceramics studio, photography lab, and printmaking lab. These roles are essential to maintaining a safe, clean, and productive environment for students and faculty. Responsibilities include assisting with equipment use, monitoring safety standards, organizing supplies, maintaining inventory, and providing general housekeeping for assigned studio areas. Lab technicians also help students with access to tools and spaces, and may be assigned specific tasks or projects by faculty or staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of annual safety and equipment training (provided as needed). Ability to work a consistent schedule, including weekday, evening, or weekend hours. Willingness to perform cleaning, maintenance, and organization duties. Professionalism and respect in all interactions, in accordance with the UWF Code of Conduct. Additional tasks and duties may be assigned by supervising faculty or staff members.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should be current UWF students with relevant coursework in areas such as sculpture, ceramics, photography, or printmaking. Safety and equipment training is required and will be provided if needed. Candidates should be reliable, organized, and available to work some evenings and weekends. Professionalism and respectful interaction with students, faculty, and staff are essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Physical Requirements: Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely results would be cuts, bruises, etc.
  • Use of hands to handle objects: Daily
  • Lifting up to 10lbs: Frequently
  • Lifting up to 25lbs: Frequently
  • Lifting over 25lbs: Frequently

Special Requirements or Considerations of the Job:  

This position requires a criminal background screen.
