POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

Custodial Worker unlocks assigned building and cleans and services restrooms, lounges, E-Classrooms, offices, public entrances, and stairways and other areas as assigned by supervision. Work is performed to APPA level 3 standards. Tasks are usually performed alone during an eight hour shift, but can at times be strenuous and may require teamwork. Receives direct supervision from the Sr. Custodial Supervisor and work/project coordination from the Sr. Custodian.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of the ninth grade.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of the ninth grade. Six months experience: vacuuming, shampooing, steam cleaning carpets, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing floors, cleaning rest rooms and laboratories.
Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform custodial tasks, work to heights of 10 feet and lift 50 pounds.
Wear uniform provided. Work safely and wear personal protective clothing/shoes/equipment when appropriate.
Report damaged items that need repair.
Ability to read numbers. Complete and turn in TMA workorders in a timely manner.
Ability to effectively communicate and maintain good working relationship with faculty, students, campus staff, custodial staff, specialist and supervisor to determine needs and ensure continuous process improvements.
Keep keys secure at all times.
Understand and consistently apply internal department procedures, UWF Policies and Procedures, Environmental Health and Safety training, Facilities Standard Operation Procedures (found on FDO website), and SDS Sheets.

Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform custodial tasks, work to heights of 10 feet, and ability lift 50 pounds.
Ability to effectively communicate and maintain good working relationship with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and others to determine needs and ensure continuous process improvements.
Proven excellent customer service skills.
Proven use of safety standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
  • 60% - CLEAN AND SERVICE CLASSROOMS: Waste Containers – emptying, cleaning, rebagging. Flat Surfaces – dusting, cleaning. Clean Chalkboards/Whiteboards – cleaning, restocking. Pencil Sharpener – emptying, wiping, clean-up as needed. Walls/Doors – unlock as required, dusting, cleaning. Windows – cleaning to a height of 10 feet. Desks & Chairs – dusting, cleaning, straightening. Vents – dusting, cleaning. CLEAN AND SERVICES LABORATORIES: empty waste containers, sweep/dust mop floors, and damp mop floors. CLEAN AND SERVICE ENTRANCE WAYS: Damp mop floors,clean walk-off mats, clean doors and windows, and dust flat surfaces. CLEAN AND SERVICE OFFICE AREAS: Waste Containers – emptying, disinfecting, rebagging. Furniture – light dusting. Telephones – wiping, disinfecting. Vents – dusting, cleaning. CLEAN AND SERVICE RESTROOMS, SHOWER ROOMS, LOCKER/CHANGING ROOMS, AND LOUNGES: Dispensers – restocking, cleaning. Ceramic Tile Floor – sweep, damp mopping, disinfecting. Toilets/Urinals – cleaning, brushing, wiping, disinfecting. Clean locker benches and water fountains. Walls/Doors/Partitions – cleaning, disinfecting. Mirror – cleaning, removing streaks. Sinks/Fixtures – cleaning, disinfecting. Shower/Fixtures – cleaning, disinfecting. Waste Containers – emptying, cleaning, rebagging, washing. CLEANS AND SERVICES PUBLIC CIRCULATION AREAS: Water Fountains – cleaning, disinfecting. Waste Containers – emptying, cleaning, rebagging. Furniture – wiping, light dusting. Telephones – wiping, disinfecting. Vents – dusting, cleaning. CLEAN STAIRWELLS: Sweep, dust mop, and damp mop - (Essential)
  • 10% - CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF FOOTING: Carpet/Mats – vacuuming, hot water extraction, spot cleaning, gum removal, restorative care. Resilient Tile – dust mopping, damp mopping, stripping, waxing, spray-buffing, burnishing, spot-cleaning, and scrubbing. Wood Floor – dust mopping, spot cleaning, tacking. Terrazo – sweeping, dust mopping, damp mopping. Concrete – sweeping, spraying. Rubberized – dust mopping, damp mopping, and brush scrubbing. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Polices area around assigned buildings. Responds to emergencies such as water incursion, human accidents, debris cleanup, hurricane, etc. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Takes recycle cart to curb on specific morning of the week or as directed by supervisor. Return cart to building same day. Cleans light fixtures to a height of 10 feet using a stepladder. Relocates furniture as directed by supervisor. Prepares timesheet electronically and submits to supervision as directed. Reviews and fills out task and frequencies checklist weekly to ensure responsibilities are completed. - (Essential)
